January: cold, gray, and (where I live) wet. Generally not my favorite month. However …

I remember as a kid eagerly anticipating two events that signaled in my mind the impending end of winter:

• The arrival of the first packs of Topps baseball cards at the corner drug store.
•  Street & Smith’s Baseball Yearbook showing up in the newsstand.

One good thing about January is that right at the end of the month the baseball annuals start showing up in the newsstands. So today, much to my delight, while I was doing some grocery shopping I spied the first annual in the magazine rack: Lindy’s Fantasy Baseball 2008. Naturally I snatched a copy right up. Can Street & Smith’s and the 2008 Topps packs be far behind?
