While everyone has made a big deal out of the fact that the Tigers have gotten off to a terrible start in the American League, nobody has made much mention of the even worse start by the Washington Nationals, who are now 4-11. Maybe that’s because unlike the Tigers nobody expected the nationals to do much this year, but I was expecting a little better than that out of a team that has a legitimate star in Ryan Zimmerman, a couple of decent young players in Lastings Milledge and Nick Johnson, and a bullpen that is better than quite a few teams in the league.
But there the Nationals are, with the worst record in the entire Major Leagues. No end in sight for fans in the nation’s capital, which seems to be snakebit when it comes to the game of baseball. Come to think of it, the entire NL East has been pretty dismal, with only the Florida Marlins giving their fans much to cheer for. The Mets have a winning record (7-6), but so much more was expected of them. Philadelphia and Atlanta have been even worse. It’s still early, but this could be the worst division in baseball this season.
